I added the following CSS code chunk to my document, but you can also create a standalone CSS file and include that in the Rmd YAML header. I took a quite different approach to the answers above, using only CSS and without absolute positioning. Note that the `echo = FALSE` parameter was added to the code chunk to prevent printing of the R code that generated the plot. When you click the **Knit** button a document will be generated that includes both content as well as the output of any embedded R code chunks within the document.
